Solomon Stag is the fifth in Madeleine Agnew’s enchanting series of stag portraits, a collection where the natural elegance of wildlife meets the refinement of human sophistication.

Solomon is depicted as a regal figure, wearing attire reminiscent of the Regency period—a time known for its polished fashion and understated grandeur. His outfit features a finely tailored waistcoat with intricate embroidery and a velvet frock coat, all rendered in exquisite detail. The stag’s proud antlers rise majestically, adding a striking contrast to the delicate elegance of his clothing. The colour palette is rich yet harmonious, evoking the opulence of the era while maintaining a sense of natural grace. As with all of Madeleine’s works, Solomon Stag invites the viewer into a whimsical world where the boundaries between the animal kingdom and human society dissolve, creating a portrait that feels both fantastical and timeless.
